Car Travel Directions

From the South and Glasgow Airport, travel west on M8 following signs for Loch Lomond and Erskine Bridge. Cross bridge to join the A82 (exit left from bridge) and follow Loch Lomond signs. About 12 miles later, at 4th roundabout, take 1st exit to A818 into Helensburgh. In Helensburgh, about half way down long hill, turn right into Millig Street just before traffic island. Turn 1st left into Colquhoun Street and Balmillig entrance drive is 1st left in this block (look for blue sign on top of the stone wall).

From the North follow the A82 and about 6 miles south of Luss, turn right (last exit) onto A818 and follow signs for Helensburgh. In Helensburgh, about half way down long hill, turn right into Millig Street just before traffic island. Turn 1st left into Colquhoun Street and Balmillig entrance drive is 1st left in this block (look for blue sign on top of the stone wall).

Public transport to and from Balmillig

Being roughly midway between Helensburgh’s Central and Upper Stations and no more than a ten minute walk from either, Balmillig is conveniently located for guests travelling by public transport. There is a regular half hourly train service between Glasgow and Helensburgh Central, while the Upper Station is served by around 12 trains a day. The Upper Station is on the famously scenic West Highland Line which boasts the London Sleeper Service as well as 4 trains to and from Oban, 4 to and from Fort William/Mallaig and 6 to and from Glasgow. Details on Trainline Helensburgh also serves as a local bus service ‘hub’ with connections to Dumbarton and Glasgow as well as the beautifully situated Clyde sea loch villages of Garelochhead, Clynder, Rosneath , Kilcreggan, Cove, Arrochar and Lochgoilhead. There are also bus connections to the Loch Lomondside communities of Balloch, Luss and Tarbet.
