“First in class! Perfect score!” May 2016
At the last moment we had to change our travel route through Scotland. Luckily for us we were able to book a room at the lovely Balmillig House in Helensburgh. Anne and John welcomed us into their home and showed us up to a large, clean and light filled room on the second floor. Our room had a King sized bed that was extremely comfortable and was decked out with ‘air fresh’ smelling, ironed sheets and comforter. The ensuite was very big, again very clean and with a really nice shower. We were free to make ourselves comfortable in the sunroom, use the fridge and sit in their beautiful, flower filled garden, complete with a little pond. Everything about this B and B cries 5 star. It is professionally operated and at the same time makes you feel right at home. The home is decorated with real Scottish art with some whimsical touches. There is lots of historical Scottish books to look through too. Breakfast in the sunroom was delicious. There is ample parking on the lot itself and this home is easy walking distance to town. I was searching for a National Trust home called Carisbrooke that my architect Grandfather helped design and John and Anne took an active part in finding it by calling around to various friends. We really appreciated this kind gesture. They also directed us to a wonderful walk that winds over the top of the town all the way to Rhu. I recommend this B and B with no hesitation. It is one of the best that we stayed in while in Scotland. Many thanks to our talented and friendly hosts Anne and John.
“Lovely accommodation and hospitality”
Have just returned following a 2 night stay at Balmillig whilst visiting family in Helensburgh. We stayed in the Blue room which was so lovely – it is very roomy and has added extras to make your stay very comfortable. The room and ensuite were excellent – the huge bed so inviting it was hard to get up each morning for the excellent breakfast!
The location was ideal for us. We visited local restaurants for some lovely food and it was only a short drive to reach Loch Lomond or Arrochar for some beautiful walks.
An added bonus for me was the garden – although January, it had shrubs in bloom and the wildlife pond welcomed the various birds to use as a bird bath or to drink. We ate breakfast in the conservatory whilst watching numerous birds on the feeders close up.
Can highly recommend Balmillig – John and Anne are very welcoming hosts with lots of local knowledge. A pleasure to visit and we would definitely book again.
“Wonderful place to stay”
Comfortable and relaxing place to stay. John and Anne are excellent, friendly and extremely helpful hosts. B&B is conveniently located with a short walk to downtown Helensburgh and close to numerous local attractions in the Loch Lomond area. I travel to Helensburgh frequently on business and have stayed at numerous hotels in the area. This was my first time staying at the Balmillig and I was very pleased with the accommodations. I’d highly recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing, comfortable and quiet stay in the area whether traveling for business or pleasure.
Very friendly couple, made feel at home as soon as you walk in the door, breakfast was very good everything was on the table cook breakfast freshly cooked and very tasty, the bed was very comfortable, nothing was to much trouble for them, 100% yes I would stay again and I would recommend to anyone I know.
Our visit was in January for a week to visit lots of old friends, and we were concerned that our B&B base would be really comfortable and warm at such an inhospitable time of year.
We needn’t have worried – we found every aspect to be truly superb. Anne and John were such thoughtful and friendly hosts and their attention to detail in every respect, to make our stay a most enjoyable one, was second to none. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this B&B to anyone looking for one of the very best.
“Thanks for a great stay!”
Anne and John were very welcoming, accommodating and knowledgeable about the local site.
The rooms were very clean and very comfortable. My Dad, who has a bad back, appreciated the good bed. We will defiantly choose to stay here again when we are next up visiting family.
“Comfort and hospitality”
A really comfortable Bed and Breakfast. We came for a weekend in January to visit friends. The weather was appalling – wind and rain and hail but we were made very welcome in a warm and comfortable room. Despite arriving quite late in the evening the owner drove us himself to a nearby restaurant and then once again to church on Sunday. Our room was very well appointed with a TV and iPad as was the bathroom. Breakfast was excellent with a great choice of fruit, cereals, porridge, yoghurt and delicious cooked breakfast. Lots of interesting books to read and board games to play as well as a supply of DVDs, umbrellas , boots and anoraks. We will return!
“A very welcoming B&B”
John and Anne genuinely cared about making my stay at Balmillig as comfortable and relaxing as possible. The room was very comfortable with subtle underfloor heating – perfect for a particularly harsh west of Scotland winter’s night! A comfortable bed, quiet location and a good breakfast ensured that I was ready for the long day ahead. I would recommend Balmillig to anyone visiting the area for business or pleasure alike.
“Happy New Year”
A warm welcome and a nice cup of tea awaits you . Rooms are well equipped, lovely and warm and spotlessly clean . The bed was very comfortable. Anne and John are keen to make your stay as comfortable as possible and Anne cooks a mean breakfast which sets you up for the day. Anne and John know the area well and are immersed in the local community and its activities. John has a very good knowledge of local attractions as well as those further afield and his suggested scenic car journey was fantastic for those who enjoy mountain roads and beautiful scenery. We stayed for two nights and would recommend this B and B .
We had a perfect stay with John and Anne last weekend. We don’t tend to stay in B&Bs but our stay here has made me completely rethink that because this B&B was excellent in every way – better than any of the hotel rooms we have stayed in before. John and Annie were such welcoming hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We traveled with our 7 week old baby and they were so helpful and obliging. We stayed in the Blue Room which was incredibly spacious. The bed and sheets were very comfortable and the bathroom was finished to a very high spec. Anne cooks amazing breakfasts and the choice was extensive. It was a home away from home. The B&B is a just a short walk to the high street so is very convenient. We will absolutely stay there again next time we visit Helensburgh.
I’ve been staying in hotels and b&bs everyday of my working life for past 30 years and I can honestly say you will be hard pushed to fine better hosts or a better b&b. I have been working in Helensbough on and off for the past five years and in that time have stayed at all the hotels and most of the b&bs but this is the only one I’ve been back too.
